The Lost Sun

The Lost Sun is a 90 minute workshop where the children think about light and what it does.

They make lighthouses and play games thinking about what it is like to be in the dark. They then watch a video about a little girl called Daisy whose world goes dark because the sun goes out. Daisy doesn’t know if it is just her world or if everyone is in the dark. The children answer questions about Daisy by holding up the appropriate emoji’s and then they are gently asked about how they are feeling. It gives the opportunity for children to share worries and anxieties. The workshop finishes with reminding the children that Christians believe that Jesus is like a light that never goes out and he is always there.

The session has been endorsed by the Mental Health Foundation and Groundbreakers have run a lot of them across Manchester schools.

“Year 2 absolutely loved the workshop on The Lost Sun. The craft activity was really engaging and meaningful. It helped them to understand the message in the story which was delivered in a really age-appropriate and accessible way. The activities were carefully planned so all the children were involved and participating throughout the session, we had a fantastic time!”
