Luke's Story

Diary of a Disciple: Luke’s Story is a retelling of Luke’s Gospel in a quirky, contemporary, accessible style similar to the Tom Gates books.

The workshop for Key Stage 2 children, runs alongside the book, running for 90 minutes and comprises of fun, and interactive games, craft, drama, and puzzles.

The workshop links well with a number of sections of the KS 2 Religious Education schemes of work such as Christians Values, what is the Bible and why is it important to Christians? Who is Jesus? What did he do and what did he say? Followers of Jesus, forgiveness, and Christian love. The workshop can run at any time of year.

The Diary of a Disciple workshop follows a simple structure, outlined below:

Introduction (20 minutes) – Welcome and fun Interactive games
Activity One (15 minutes)
Activity Two (15 minutes)
Activity Three (15 minutes)
Activity Four (15 minutes)
Reflection and close (10 minutes)

The introduction section of the workshop happens with all the pupils gathered together. Children are then split into smaller groups and rotate around the four activities above, spending 15 minutes at each one.

Pupils come back together for the reflection and closing sections of the workshop.

The children each take home a mini Diary of a Disciple book which comprises of the first three chapters of the book and the school is left with a full hard backed copy for the school library. The children also take home their activity book and the craft they have made.

It is a fun, interactive fast paced workshop which has something for everyone and is always enjoyed. In fact, one boy in a school in the centre of Manchester said,

“It has been the best day of my life!!”
