Collective Worship

Groundbreakers take a face-to-face Collective Worship into primary schools each half-term.

These are developed as a theme for the year with the Online Assemblies, as well as working together, they both stand alone. Face-to-face collective worship is an interactive experience and uses physical visual aids, rather than an electronic presentation. There will be activities at the front and an engaging story with a message to reflect on.

The Collective Worship theme for 2024-25 has been Nobodies Who Became Somebodies! Looking at some lesser-known characters in the Bible who did something small but that changed the course of Bible history, we have proved that anyone can be special in God’s Kingdom. The introductory assembly to the theme reminded the children that they are all valuable to God with unique personalities, gifts and abilities and that in fact, nobody is a nobody but rather God has great plans for each of us.

Other assemblies looked at Naaman’s servant girl who gets a couple of sentences in the Bible for her lack of complaining about her circumstances but who instead shows compassion for Naaman; Michaiah who simply refused to blend in and speaks out against King Ahab; and the friends of the paralysed man dropped through the roof to Jesus’ feet. Each time the children are reminded that NOBODY is a NOBODY with God!

Christmas and Easter are specifically included within the overall theme in the relevant Collective Worship.

We are looking to develop resources to accompany all Groundbreakers Collective Worship, both face-to-face and Online Assemblies. These will be made available on our Resources page.

Following a recent assembly, where our Groundbreakers’ worker was approached by a boy who asked for some advice, we would be interested in pursuing conversations with schools who are interested in Groundbreakers providing an opportunity for children to talk about their thoughts and concerns.

Groundbreakers Collective Worship has received positive inclusion in SIAMS Inspection (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) reports.
